What I Will Change For A2
1. Organisation
I have never been a very organised person, however AS originally helped me to manage my time better. For A2, I plan to have a clear checklist/calendar somewhere accessible that list all of our shooting dates, which our group will hopefully decipher in the first few lessons of starting our project.
2. Storyboard
In AS, we stuck down the different frames to pieces of paper. However, this didn't prove effective when we altered the story of our film opening. Therefore, I think that it will be better if we leave all of the frames unstuck until we need the end of the project.
3. Blog
I plan for my blog to be much more organised, as well as provide evidence of all of my research and planning with more blog posts. In AS, I posted a total of 50 blog posts overall. For A2, I aim to post at least 75. This aim will hopefully encourage me to do more research on a variety of different genres and trailers. I would also like to present my research and planning, as well as other blog posts, in more creative ways. It was extremely hard to present blog posts creatively in AS, however I aim to improve the overall outlook of my blog by trying new ways (e.g. more YouTube videos, graphics) of displaying the information on this blog.
4. Camera Work
I would like to experiment with different shot types. The shots we used in AS were very basic, and though the opportunity to film underwater was presented to us, we did not use this opportunity to create a more unique and professional film opening. For A2, I would particularly like to try a match-on-action shot in our trailer, as well as a variety of other shot types.
5. Stick to deadlines
At the beginning of our AS project, we were very good at sticking to deadlines, however as the final deadline approached we began to panic. For A2, I would make sure that, with the help of time management, we would stick to deadlines.
6. Technology
I aim to learn how to use a new piece of software for A2. Whether it's a free trial version of Final Cut Pro X, or an online image editor, or developing my skills in Photoshop CC 2015, I feel like this will increase my understanding of technology and editing. Last year, I learnt how to use iMovie, but I didn't do as much editing as I would've liked to. Moreover, I would also like to contribute more to my group this year by editing more of the final project.
7. Locations
In AS, our media group knew exactly where we were going to film when we first thought up our original idea. As well as this, we had one location, and locating scouting wasn't very effective or necessary in that project. However, for A2 I aim to do a lot more location scouting in order to gain the perfect settings for the different shots for our trailer.
8. Props
Although I do not know what our trailer will be about, I will be much more thorough about props and make sure that the props we buy offline are good quality, instead of buying them because they are cheap. In order to make a realistic trailer, realistic props must be used, especially in genres such as social realism and romance.
9. Sound
Sound is essential to a trailer to build a climax and keep an audience member hooked. Before, in our coursework last year, our group used sound effects stored on iMovie and found on YouTube. For A2, music is much more important, particularly because there are typically two songs in a theatrical trailer, overlayed with multiple sound effects. Therefore, searching for music will be a harder task, but we must ensure that it fits our trailer before using it. As well as this, foley sound experiments will come in handy, especially if we cannot find a desired free sound effect on the internet.
10. Communication
Last year, our group had a group chat on messenger, however this did not always prove an effective way of contacting the group. For A2, our communication skills must improve so that we are organised, and can create a professional trailer by the coursework deadline.
11. Audience Feedback
We will gather more audience feedback (we only did this once for the previous project), so that we can adapt our trailer to fit our target audience and we can improve the trailer further to gain the best possible mark at the end of the course.
